Missouri State Flag

The Missouri state flag, officially established on March 22, 1913, is a tricolor with horizontal stripes of red, white, and blue, reminiscent of the flag of the Netherlands. These colors symbolize valor, purity, vigilance, and justice, while also reflecting Missouri's historical connection to French Louisiana. In the center of the white stripe lies the Missouri state seal, encircled by a blue band containing 24 stars, representing Missouri's status as the 24th U.S. state. The seal features a total of 24 stars and incorporates the Great Seal of the United States, bringing the flag's star count to 61. The state motto, "Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto," meaning "The health (welfare, good, salvation, felicity) of the people should be the supreme law," is also present on the seal. Designed by Mary Elizabeth Oliver, this flag boasts a unique combination of elements, including a bear and an eagle, setting it apart from other state flags.
