State Flowers List

All U.S. states have an official state flower, but how they picked them varies. Some did it quickly, while others did it as a tradition. State flowers are chosen to honor things important to the state's history or landscapes, often with schoolchildren voting on them. The first state flower, the coastal rhododendron, was picked by Washington in 1892, even before women could vote. It was recognized officially by the state in 1959.
