Montana State Flag

Date adopted: Jul 1, 1981

The flag of Montana features the state seal centered on a blue field. The seal depicts a plow, shovel, and pick in front of the Great Falls of the Missouri River, with a ribbon containing the state motto, "Oro y plata" (Spanish for "Gold and silver"). Adopted in 1905, the flag had "Montana" added above the seal in 1981 and specified the font as Helvetica Bold in 1985. Before becoming the state flag, it was used by Montana troops during the Spanish–American War.
