New Hampshire State Flag

Date adopted: Jan 1, 1931

The flag of New Hampshire features the state seal centered on a blue background, making it one of two U.S. state flags to incorporate an image of the Stars and Stripes flag, alongside Utah. The state seal portrays the frigate USS Raleigh within a laurel wreath with nine stars, signifying New Hampshire as the ninth state to join the Union. The laurel wreath represents fame, honor, and victory, while the depiction of the Raleigh commemorates one of the first 13 warships sponsored by the Continental Congress, built in 1776 at Portsmouth. The water in the seal represents Portsmouth's harbor, and the yellow spit of land symbolizes granite, reflecting both the state's rugged terrain and the resilience of its people
