Pennsylvania State Flag

The flag of Pennsylvania is a simple yet significant emblem, featuring a blue field with the state coat of arms displayed prominently. Historically, the use of the state coat of arms on flags for the Pennsylvania militia dates back to April 9, 1799, with various forms of flags in use. These flags sometimes featured the coat of arms alone on a blue field or replaced the stars in the US flag's union with the state coat of arms. Over time, the depiction of the coat of arms and the color of the horses in it varied until standardization in 1875. To create a uniform flag, the Pennsylvania General Assembly mandated a plain blue field, matching the color of the US flag, with the coat of arms as the sole emblem. This standardized flag was officially adopted by law on June 13, 1907.
