Kentucky State Quarter
Year of issue: 2001
Released on October 15, 2001, this is the 15th coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the fifth released in 2001. Kentucky, admitted into the Union on June 1, 1792, themed the coin, My Old Kentucky Home. It features the stately mansion, Federal Hill and a thoroughbred racehorse positioned behind a fence in the foreground.
The obverse (heads) design shows the familiar portrait of George Washington used on the quarter since 1932. But the inscriptions previously used on the reverse – "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "QUARTER DOLLAR", "LIBERTY", and "IN GOD WE TRUST" – all appear on the obverse in order to accommodate the state designs.
