Arizona State Seal

Arizona State Seal

The Great Seal of the State of Arizona, as described in Article 22, Section 20 of the Arizona State Constitution, features a picturesque scene that embodies the state's identity. It depicts a mountain range with the sun rising behind it, a storage reservoir, irrigated fields, orchards, grazing cattle, a quartz mill, and a miner with pick and shovel. Above this image, the motto "Ditat Deus" is inscribed, and a circular band surrounds the entire design, bearing the text "Great Seal of The State of Arizona" along with the year of the state's admission to the Union. Notably, the miner depicted is George Warren, the original claimant of a mining site in Bisbee, Arizona, in 1877. The seal is safeguarded by the Arizona Secretary of State and is strictly regulated, not to be used for commercial purposes under Arizona state law. Its design was crafted by E.E. Motter, a newspaper artist in Phoenix, and it serves as a significant emblem of Arizona's heritage and values.
