Arkansas State Seal

Arkansas State Seal

The Great Seal of Arkansas serves as the official authentication for various documents issued by the Arkansas government, consisting of both the physical seal held by the Governor and its design. The current design, in use since May 23, 1907, features an eagle at the bottom holding a scroll with the inscription "Regnat populus," along with symbols like a steamboat, beehive, plow, and sheaf of wheat on a shield covering the eagle's breast. The Goddess of Liberty, an angel representing "Mercy," and a sword symbolizing "Justice" are also part of the design, all encircled by stars and rays, with the words "Seal of the State of Arkansas" surrounding it. This seal has a rich historical background, with the wording of its motto corrected from "Regnant populi" to "Regnat populus" in 1907, through an act of the State legislature amending the 1864 act.
