Oklahoma State Seal

The Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma is a complex emblem rich in symbolism. It consists of a five-pointed star within a circle, surrounded by 45 smaller stars representing the 45 U.S. states existing before Oklahoma's statehood. The central star holds six seals, including the seal of the original Territory of Oklahoma with the motto "Labor Omnia Vincit," symbolizing labor conquering all things. At its core, Columbia represents justice and statehood, flanked by an American pioneer farmer and an aboriginal American Indian, signifying equal justice between the Anglo and Native American races. Below them are symbols of plenty and peace, while behind them is the sun of progress and civilization. The five rays of the star bear the seals of the Five Civilized Tribes – Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole – each with its unique significance and symbolism. This seal reflects the diverse heritage and unity of Oklahoma, serving as a reminder of its history and culture. Additionally, the proposed state of Sequoyah adopted a similar seal in 1905, paying tribute to the Cherokee syllabary's inventor and representing a bid for statehood in Indian Territory.
