Wyoming State Seal

Wyoming State Seal

The Great Seal of the State of Wyoming, adopted in 1893 and revised in 1921, holds historical significance and symbolism. The dates 1869 and 1890 on the seal commemorate Wyoming's territorial organization and admission to the Union. At the center, a draped figure holds a staff with a banner proclaiming "Equal Rights," symbolizing Wyoming's early recognition of women's political status since 1869. Male figures represent the state's livestock and mining industries. The number 44 on a star signifies Wyoming as the 44th state in the Union. Atop pillars, lamps illuminate the "Light of Knowledge," while scrolls encircling them display the words Oil, Mines, Livestock, and Grain, representing Wyoming's major industries. This seal is prominently featured in the design of Wyoming's state flag, set against the silhouette of an American Bison, and displayed in the state's legislative chambers.
